Thanks for having me, it’s good to be here Jason, and chatting with you guys.
When I was an engineering student, first starting out in my fledgling career at the city, I took on the project of implementing an electronic document record management system. Thinking this would be the be all and end all. But I failed to realize some key points. One of them being communication. Another one being buy-in. I didn’t really talk to anybody else that was going to be using the system as well. I just kinda did it. And also expectations. I had way too strong of expectations on the software. I thought it was going to be a silver bullet. I thought it was going to fix all our problems. We’re going to bring it in, and then it’s gonna you know, it’s just going to work. Ahh, what it ended up doing was failing pretty poorly. I learned a lot from it. It was unfortunate. It more than stalled, it failed. We never used it and I just chalked that one up on the board and moved along and learned from those experiences.
We also had a digital payroll at the city. That was actually run and tried to be implemented by another department, following a lot of the same things I just mentioned. They didn’t get buy-in from management and staff and just said “here is your system, you gotta use it now. It doesn’t really work that well and there’s lot of issues, but you’ll figure it out as you go.” And it failed again. So, learning those things, some lessons learned, I took a lot from that and it made me really, really cautious, and really, really, particular with how I did this Fiix implementation.
