As manufacturing evolves faster each year, AI solutions are becoming workflow staples, computer vision is going mainstream, and advancements in 5G are opening up new cloud computing possibilities. At the same time, environmental concerns are redefining success in virtually every industry. So, what does this mean for maintenance?

At this year’s Fiix Forward in Memphis, @MaxMaterne, Product Marketing Manager at Fiix, and @TadRdz, Customer Sustainability Operations Lead at Rockwell Automation, delivered a great presentation on the global shifts in manufacturing. They emphasized a crucial point: maintaining assets is, by nature, a sustainable practice, and improving maintenance efficiency directly supports sustainability goals.

Notably, 98% organizations worldwide now have a sustainability or ESG program—up from 90% last year. Their top concerns are all rooted in better maintenance practices: energy management, product quality, safety, waste reduction. Maintaining safe environments requires disciplined maintenance, and improving efficiency has emerged as the #1 objective for sustainability and ESG initiatives.

Max and Tadeo also explored key themes, challenges, and opportunities for maintenance teams, highlighting how tools and technologies, including AI, can support sustainability goals.

This got me thinking—are any of our community members directly responsible for sustainability initiatives at your organization? What sustainability challenges are you currently tackling? And how do you see maintenance evolving as a key driver of sustainability?
